All About MCU

The Midwives College of Utah is an accredited, degree granting program for students wishing to become excellent direct-entry midwives. MCU allows you to study wherever you may live through our Distance Education curriculum.  Students are required to work with an approved  midwife in their local area for the clinical portion of thier program.

The Midwives College of Utah, formerly the Utah College of Midwifery, was founded in 1980 and is one of the largest and longest standing direct-entry programs in the nation. MCU currently has approximately 95 students and over 75 graduates from several certificate and degree programs.

MCU was one of the first programs accredited by the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC), and has maintained accreditation since 1996. For more information on MEAC visit www.meacschools.org.

In 2003 MCU was accepted by the California Medical Board as an approved educational route towards California licensure.  Students who wish to be licensed in California must complete MCU's California Endorsement program over and above their graduation requirements.

The administration and faculty of MCU keep abreast of current educational and occupational developments by being members of national, state and educational midwifery organizations, and serve on national and state committees and boards.
