History of MCU

The Midwives College of Utah (MCU), formerly the Utah School of Midwifery, and the Utah College of Midwifery, was founded in 1980. The college incorporated as a nonprofit organization in December 1998.

The Midwives College of Utah was founded by Dianne Bjarnson in a response to the rising need of accessable, quality midwifery education.  MCU has been educating midwives throughout North America for the last 25 years.

Today, the mission of the Midwives College of Utah is to build midwives of technical expertise, professional excellence, and personal greatness--namely midwives of excellence.  MCU graduates will be midwives who are pivotal to the "tipping" revolution of maternity care and birth culture throughout North America in the 21st century.

The Midwives College of Utah is REGISTERED UNDER THE UTAH POSTSECONDARY PROPRIETARY SCHOOL ACT (Title 53B, Chapter 5, Utah Code Annotated 1953)
Registration under the Utah Postsecondary Proprietary School Act does not mean that the State of Utah supervises, recommends, nor accredits the institution. It is the student's responsibility to determine whether credits, degrees, or certificates from the institution will transfer to other institutions or meet employers' training requirements. This may be done by calling the prospective school and employer.
