Sonia Ochoa

Sonia Ochoa has been acquainted with both conventional and alternative medicine from childhood. Her father was a physician, surgeon and obstetrician and her grandfather was a homeopathic surgeon and obstetrician. Sonia received her first degree as a Physician, Surgeon and Obstetrician from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. Observing side effects on people treated with conventional medicine and then the same people recovering with homeopathic treatments planted in her the desire to study more about Homeopathy.  Sonia completed her specialty in Homeopathy at Homeopathy of Guadalajara, in Mexico.

Sonia has taught in many capacities since a teenager. While in Mexico, she served as a board member for several education boards. At 25, she was invited to be the Secretary to the Board of Natural Sciences of the General Direction for Technological Industrial Education of the Secretariat of Public Education of the State of Jalisco, Mexico.

Education and community service have been key components in Sonia’s life. They have lead her to be involved in several organizations, such as the Utah Genealogical Association, where she served as an instructor, treasurer, and board member; the Women’s Conference 2001 (sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Brigham Young University), where she served in the organization committee; the American Red Cross, where she has served as director of the program for school safety and community emergencies, volunteer instructor, first responder for the Winter Olympics 2002, instructor trainer, and member of the board of directors as the chair of the services delivery committee.

In 2002, Sonia was offered the position of Director of Distance Studies at the Midwives College of Utah, where she is currently serving as a faculty member as well. Two years later, Sonia was invited to join the board of directors of the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council as a professional member. Due to her interest in both alternative medicine and education, she agreed to be a representative at the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care (ACCAHC). Sonia has written and put together numerous programs, syllabi, and plans of study in several disciplines.
