Kim Smith
Kim has been actively involved with the birthing community for twenty-five years. During her first pregnancy she discovered a love and fascination for pregnancy which grew stronger with each of her births. She became a Certified Childbirth Educator through ICEA in 1986 and was one of the first non-RN Childbirth Educators in
Her first birth was a “typical hospital birth” in the seventies. It left her knowing that babies were not meant to be delivered in such a harsh manner. Between her first and second birth she studied everything she could about different birth philosophies and practices. When she became pregnant with her second child she knew that this baby would be born at home and actively sought out a homebirth midwife. Her second birth was filled with love, peace, safety and spirituality. Her third child was also born in this warm and loving manner. In 1993 she entered the Utah Association of Community Midwives School and graduated in 1995. After graduating her midwifery practice grew quickly. She was also, asked to return to the school and become an Instructor and the Student Liaison, which she enjoyed doing for the next twelve years. She found that some of her most treasured friendships came during this time in her life.

Kim has an absolute love and understanding of pregnancy and birth. She is a firm believer in the “freedom of choice in birth” and believes that all women should have the right to choose the safest and best place for them. She states that, “Homebirth Midwives are the guardians and protectors of true birth. They are the ones who understand that birth not only affects a woman on a physical and spiritual level but it is like a wave on the water as it continues to ripple through her life. It is important that we keep the Homebirth Midwife a viable source for expectant mothers and families. I am honored to be a part of the MCU faculty and am looking forward to working with each of you”. 1174 E 2700 S STE 2 SLC, UT 84106-2671 1-866-680-2756 1-801-649-5230 Fax: 1-866-207-2024 office@midwifery.edu |
