Walidah MuhammadI began my midwifery path after I completed my BSN degree at the University of Arizona in 1995. I quickly began working in labor and delivery and truly loved the work. It is here that I became interested in addressing infant mortality after seeing so many babies lose their life early in pregnancy. I felt that I wanted to do more. I knew that I wanted to be a midwife, but instead I received a degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Despite being a FNP, I still found myself gravitating to work with women. So, I then entered the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in 2001 to finally obtain the degree that I knew I wanted all along. I have truly loved being a midwife. I love the energy of pregnancy and birth. I love being able to transmit this feeling to willing and open students. As I midwife I have served as a preceptor to both formal and informal learners. Anyone that showed interest I was willing to teach. In my personal life I am a proud wife and mother of four and I have experienced birth in various situations. I feel that this has given me a unique perspective of how setting influences birth. My first child was born via a c-section, my second was a successful water VBAC at a birth center, and my last two were born at home. I believe in the natural and beautiful process of birth/child rearing and would love to pass on the things I have learned to others. Besides my family, birth, and teaching my other loves include photography, dancing, and reading. 1174 E 2700 S STE 2 SLC, UT 84106-2671 1-866-680-2756 1-801-649-5230 Fax: 1-866-207-2024 office@midwifery.edu |
