Cassi JensenCassi has been teaching in one capacity or another for over twenty-five years. Her journey into the field of birth began with the planned home birth of her first child. The birth of her second child was also planned at home, but complications required a transfer to the hospital. This experience further solidified her belief in birth as a spiritual passage, but also instilled a desire to forge cooperative efforts that would ultimately provide loving support to women in whatever surroundings they chose. She embarked on a winding path that included both mainstream and alternative education, including a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and Health and certification as a doula and childbirth educator. After several years working as a doula and teaching childbirth preparation classes (both in-hospital and independent), she decided to blend her love for teaching with her love for science and went back to school to obtain teaching certification with a focus on science education. Now, as a biology instructor for MCU, she has found a place to fulfill her love for birth as well. Currently, Cassi is finishing work on a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction. Due to the unique learning environment of MCU, she has taken a particular interest in utilizing technology in education. Other educational interests include science education across the age/grade spectrum, cognitive development/neurobiology, teaching and learning strategies for students with ADD, and service learning. Outside of teaching, personal interests include green living, traveling and exploring other cultures, cooking, reading, writing, and hanging out with her family. 1174 E 2700 S STE 2 SLC, UT 84106-2671 1-866-680-2756 1-801-649-5230 Fax: 1-866-207-2024 office@midwifery.edu |
