I began my path into midwifery as a Massage Therapist with a specialization in prenatal and infant massage. Ironically, I paid for my massage therapy program and found out two weeks later that I was pregnant with our first child.

That birth was not a wonderful experience and, through the process of researching and healing, I became a DONA-certified doula. We moved from New York to Dayton, Ohio in 2003 to be near my family as I started an apprenticeship with a homebirth midwife. Two weeks after I was accepted to MCU's masters of midwifery program, I found out we were pregnant with our second child (seeing a theme here?).

Dar a Luz Network (www.daraluznetwork.com) is my life mission as well as my thesis project. I began Dar a Luz as a way to share evidence-based information and unconditional support with women around the world during their pregnancies, births and postpartum. My belief about pregnancy and birth is my belief about life in general: everyone needs quality information to make the best decisions for themselves, and love and support whatever those decisions may be.

I am currently working on legislation to make CPMs legal in Ohio and taking the advanced courses in Cranio-Sacral Therapy including Somato-Emotional Release and Pediatric CST which is wonderful for pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

I am excited to join the wonderful faculty of MCU and look forward to helping you mature as a midwife so you can continue your work of making the world a better place for mothers and babies.
