In order to most efficiently run an online school, distance education schools should have a Learning Management System (LMS) and a Student Management System (SMS). All of you are familiar with MCU’s proprietary system which has served as both an LMS and an SMS.

A Learning Management System is software that automates the administration, tracking, and reporting of your academic and clinical coursework. Ideally, an LMS is set up to be centralized, portable and deliver learning content rapidly. Along with the ability to track your progress and determine which course materials are most engaging, an ideal system allows your professors to personalize and update educational materials in a timely manner.

A company called Instructure has created a state-of-the-art LMS called Canvas; it is used in many higher education institutions throughout the world. To enhance your midwifery education experience, MCU adopted Canvas as our Learning Management System beginning with the Summer 2016 semester.
