Cost of Program

The Cost of Program (tuition) is $2,420 for each trimester of enrollment at MCU as an undergraduate or graduate student. The Cost of Program (COP) covers all credits enrolled in at the beginning of each trimester. Students can take as few or as many credits as they wish each trimester of enrollment; the faster the student progress through the program, the more affordable the degree.

For example, a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery student enrolled in the program 3 trimesters per year and planning to graduate within 4 years may expect to pay the following total tuition for the BSM program: $29,040. This does not include fees, textbooks, equipment, and other potential costs.

How does MCU support students in keeping their midwifery education as affordable as possible?

Students may utilize a variety of methods to pay for their tuition: private pay, federal financial aid, private loans, military/veteran programs, and scholarships. See the next section for more information on each of these options.

As an educational non-profit organization, MCU is committed to increasing access to midwifery education while maintaining a high quality educational experience.

  • Some students may be eligible for a 6% Cost of Program Discount credit. (Check out the Cost of Program policies in the most recent published MCU Student Handbook and Course Catalog.)
  • For students in the position of taking longer than 6 years to complete the degree program, there is a maximum total tuition cost capped at $43,560.
  • Tuition is the same for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Because the Cost of Program covers all of the credits enrolled at the beginning of each trimester, students who wish to take more credits will progress through the program faster and more affordably.
  • MCU hosts a buy/sale/trade group for textbooks and other learning materials for enrolled students.
  • MCU encourages all prospective students, applicants, and students to submit a yearly Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – the earlier, the better!
  • MCU maintains lists of scholarship resources within and outside of MCU.
  • MCU’s year-round fundraising efforts (such as through PayPalsocial media campaigns, and our Amazon Smile program) are directly focused on donations for the MCU Briana Blackwelder Scholarship Fund to provide as many student scholarships as possible.

Students will be invoiced for the Cost of Program each trimester. The Cost of Program includes academic and clinical tuition only; all other fees must be paid when due.

Cost of Program and other fees may be raised periodically without notice.  Fees will be posted on the MCU website and in the MCU Student Handbook for the year of the student’s initial enrollment.  Tuition, fees, and additional costs are estimated as closely as possible in the MCU website and catalog.   Students must meet all agreed-upon financial obligations to the school as per the policy in the MCU catalog before being allowed to graduate or receive official transcripts.

Students may select between mailing in monthly/semester payments, paying by credit card, or automatically deducting the COP from a bank account.

Federal Financial Aid

Private Loan Options

We accept private education loans from an official lender of your choice.  Please contact VA and Private Loans for information regarding options for a private education loan.  Most private loans are subject to credit approval.

For Veterans

Midwives College of Utah’s Midwifery (BS, MS) programs are approved by the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs, State Approving Agency for Veterans Education for the education of veterans and other eligible persons. The authority for and conditions of Midwives College of Utah’s program approval are based in 38 CFR 42.4253 for accredited programs.

Students who qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, or other chapters of VA Educational Benefits, must submit their Certificate of Eligibility to MCU’s School Certifying Official, Emily Rainey (VA and Private Loans Administrator).

Refund Policy

The Application and Acceptance Processing fees are non-refundable. Once a matriculated student has enrolled in their first course, the Annual Student fee is non-refundable. The COP payment for the trimester is non-refundable once the trimester has begun unless a student withdraws from all courses before the end of the add/drop period for that trimester.  After the add/drop period, any fees associated with a course are non-refundable.  If any refunds are due to a student, they will be paid immediately. 

Financial Aid Recipients are required to follow additional procedures for withdrawal. To understand how a withdrawal will affect your financial aid, please refer to the withdrawal section in the Title IV Policy & Procedure Manual.

 Students matriculated and enrolled before January 2016

  •  To officially withdraw from MCU, please contact the Registrar.
  • If a matriculated student has enrolled in classes and wishes to withdraw as a degree-seeking student, but wishes to complete the courses already enrolled in, the student must contact the Registrar.
  • Upon notification of official withdrawal Student Finances will complete a financial review to determine the student’s account balance. The student will be responsible for any unpaid Cost of Program or unpaid student fees. Students will not be required to pay Cost of Program for any courses dropped before the add/drop deadline.

 If the financial review results in a credit on the student’s account, the credit will be applied to any encumbrances owed to MCU before it is awarded to the student. Any remaining credit will be returned to the student within 14 business days.
