44 years of cultivating community leaders

44 for 44 to cultivate community support

This year marks the 44th anniversary for the Midwives College of Utah, a milestone that carries profound significance. In honor of our school’s founder, Dianne Bjarnson, born in 1944, and the incredible journey we’ve undertaken together, we are launching a special fundraising campaign: “44 for 44.”  All proceeds from this fundraising campaign support MCU’s Community Relief Fund (formerly titled the Emergency Relief Fund).  Designed to act as a stopgap to support students in situations that could end their pursuit of midwifery education, the Community Relief Fund has been used for natural disasters, personal disasters and situations that could have ended a student’s journey as a midwife.

The “44 for 44” campaign is designed to create a village of support for our students facing unforeseen economic hardships. These challenges threaten their ability to continue and complete their distance-education coursework or clinical placement. To address these needs, we are seeking contributions in increments of 44 – be it $4.44, $44.44, or $444 – from compassionate individuals like you.

Why 44? The number 44 holds a dual significance for us. It symbolizes both the years of our school’s existence and the birth year of our esteemed founder. It is a reminder of the enduring legacy of our institution and the vision that sparked its creation.

The Village Concept: Our campaign is rooted in the belief that it takes a village to overcome challenges. We invite you to be a vital part of this village, coming together to support our students during their moments of need. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will make a tangible difference in the lives of these aspiring midwives.

How You Can Help:

  • Donate: Use our secure donation link to contribute in increments of 44.
  • Spread the Word: Share our campaign on social media, using the hashtag #44for44, and encourage your friends and family to join our village.
  • Become an Advocate: Reach out to your network, community groups, or local businesses to garner additional support.

Community Relief Fund

MCU Community Relief Overview

This fund is open to matriculating students who have a financial need. Community relief is not meant to be used for the cost of the program (tuition). Students may only receive Community Relief once during their studies at MCU.

Community Relief Fund

MCU Community Relief Fund provides emergency relief to students suffering from short-term economic hardship. This fund is intended to be a bridge to the future and assist with degree completion.

 Community Relief Criteria

  • Students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at MCU and have completed at least one academic term as a matriculating student.
  • Students must demonstrate significant financial hardship. Significant financial hardship is defined as a financial barrier that unexpectedly occurs and threatens the student’s retention and completion in the degree-seeking program in which they are enrolled at MCU.
  • The student must not currently be on academic probation. The student must not have multiple (2 or more)  violations of academic integrity or student conduct on their record.
  • In order to be considered for the fund, the student may not have received emergency funding within the last twelve months. For additional assistance, House Mentors will provide the students the 2-1-1 United Way Helpline number.
